Bob. Bob Ross.

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle.  If I could arrest all of the sadness in the world lately, I sure would.  Let me just say it.  I guess I did say it.  But since I can’t, I sure can find what is happy in the world and help you to see it today as well.

“You need the dark in order to show the light.”- Bob Ross, The Joy Of Painting

You know, a special fan told us the other day that when she listened to Boy Person and Girl Person’s podcast, that it relaxed her and put her to sleep.  Now, first of all, that may be the funniest thing that I have heard in awhile, because I tell ya, they do put me to sleep sometimes too.  I can only hear how handsome I am so much until I am bored with it.  But then our fan said something even more true.  She said that they were as relaxing as Bob Ross.  You know.  The painter.  Bob.  Bob Ross.  And I thought you know, in the world we are living in today, and in the world that we will be in tomorrow hopefully, we could all use a little Bob.  Bob Ross.

I want you to take just a moment.  Imagine that you are a wonderful, talented painter.  And you are going to paint the best thing in your day today.  What will you paint?  What will be on your canvas?

“Look around. Look at what we have. Beauty is everywhere—you only have to look to see it.”-Bob Ross, The Joy Of Painting

It is so easy to see the bad parts of our world, because that is what we hear about and that is what everyone talks about.  I know that sometimes, we have to talk a little about the bad to try and make it go away.  But when we only concentrate on the bad, how easy it is to forget the good.  And that is sad and very unnecessary.  The good parts of our world are right before our eyes. You don’t have to look very hard.

“Just go out and talk to a tree. Make friends with it.”-Bob Ross, The Joy Of Painting

Yesterday was a very sad day for many, many people.  And Girl Person thought that we needed to take a drive in order to set our minds to the positive.  So we drove to our old dog park that we lived by over five years ago in a place called Glen Ellen, California.

It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I had the radio on, I was drivin’
Trees flew by, me and Del were singin’ little Runaway
I was flyin’

And I knew the place as soon as we got near it.  And despite all of the bad that the persons were talking about all morning, I sure saw the good in that instance.  Our old hangout.  Our old dog park. Were we really here after all of these years?  I knew the trees, the mountains, the grass.  I remembered them all.

“There’s nothing wrong with having a tree as a friend.”-Bob Ross, The Joy Of Painting

It definitely was our old place.  Deputy Digby did his old routine of trying to dig up gophers, I sat in my same dirt hole..thanks for keeping it there for me, by the way.  I had thought of it fondly all of these years.

Not much had changed in five years here, and it made me think deeply as some things do.  Despite the bad that had happened that morning, the dog park was still beautiful.  The five years we had been gone, bad things had happened during that time too in our world.

Yeah runnin’ down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin’ on a mystery, goin’ wherever it leads
Runnin’ down a dream

And yet, the dog park was still beautiful.  Why?  Some bad things do not affect all of the good.  Because you can’t take away all of the good in the world.  You just can’t.  There is too much of it.

Many bad people do not outnumber the many good people.  And when our world seems out of control, stop.  Look around.  See that tree over there?  See that flower over there?  See that cloud in the sky? They are talking to you.  Just like Bob Ross talked to us.

Our fans always remind us that we have to stay focused.  Even as we are looking for a home, and trying to decide what to do in this part of our lives, we hear you.

Yeah runnin’ down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin’ on a mystery, goin’ wherever it leads
Runnin’ down a dream

We read your comments telling us to follow our hearts.  We read your comments telling us that we are needed, and that we matter to you.  And we love you for that on the days we have it a little rough.  And we definitely couldn’t have made our goal of “48 states, 48 rescues” this past year if not for you.

“The secret to doing anything is believing that you can do it. Anything that you believe you can do strong enough, you can do. Anything. As long as you believe.”-Bob Ross, The Joy Of Painting

Today is a new day.  It is not yesterday.  And it isn’t tomorrow.  Make it count, make a difference in what matters to you.  And remind someone else today that the good in our world can’t be forgotten.  Also, really look at yourself. Are you doing the things that make you happy? Are you with the people and furkids that make you happy?  Do you tell them how happy you are to be with them?  Remember, tomorrow is not guaranteed for you or for them.

So when the days seem dark, and when you hear that there is only bad in the world, remember to keep looking for the good.  It is waiting to be found. Don’t wait till it’s the end of the line.
