Sometimes You Wanna Go Where Everybody Knows Your Name

This is Deputy Digby Pancake.  You know, sometimes, it seems like certain days are after ya.  Even though I am happy pretty much all of the time, even I recognize that the persons have a lot to deal with in this camping situation we have been in for over a year.  And this weekend?  Well, it cemented the fact we are pretty much over it.  And that cement was as strong as an overcooked pancake sitting in day old maple syrup. And that my friends is sticky.

Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.

When you have to move campsites every other day, it does get old, but you cannot complain about the view.  Unless you are Sheriff Brickle and the birds keep flying at him.

So yesterday, when we had to move campsites, we had to wait till those campers left.  And when they finally left, we started up the Big Blue Treat Wagon and the persons went over to move the picnic table in the site to my liking.  That is when some other campers ran over and started literally screaming at the persons that they were moving their picnic table.  As you can imagine, the persons were confused and as usual, it never occurs to Girl Person that someone is being rude at first.  She is usually very confused.  In her mind, she was thinking that somehow, they had brought this giant picnic table with them and they wanted to take it home.  However, that was not the case. If there was ever such a thing as a rabid person, these camper monsters would have been it.

Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they’re always glad you came;
You want to go where people know,
People are all the same;
You want to go where everybody knows your name.

Boy Person calmly explained to them that we had to move to this site, and they said they did too…however, they had the wrong site number.  Boy Person told them that they should look at the map and make sure, that we didn’t want to move anyway…but this was not good enough for them.  The woman camper monster got madder, Girl Person had to hold her breath harder than when she smells my breath, and they finally figured out they were in the wrong. They walked away to apparently their camper monster campsite…right next to us, and didn’t even say they were sorry.

 Girl Person and Boy Person would have laughed about it if they weren’t so tired from staying up all night literally finishing the rescue and video for Soft Paws Rescue in Santa Rosa, California. But they pulled themselves together, bit their tongues and moved on.  To OUR campsite.  I was exhausted about the whole situation.

So, we thought that was enough negativity, and the persons commented that this whole camping thing was finally getting to them. So in the afternoon, Girl Person decided to clear her head and took me and Brickle on a walk through the campground.

As we rounded a corner, the Sheriff decided he had to do his official business in a pile of seagrass.  As Deputy, I will tell you the facts about this business taking care of.  He was not in anyone’s campsite.  He was doing his business on the side of the road. And Girl Person had dog bags.  In the middle of his business, a camper from across the street opened her door and yelled to Girl Person, asking her if there was a dog park here.  As usual, when someone is being rude, Girl Person doesn’t get it at first.  Girl Person told her no.  The new camper monster asked her if there was a designated dog walk.  Girl Person told her no, thinking maybe she had a dog and was asking questions.  That is when the camper monster told her that it was unacceptable that dogs could go everywhere, and that was not ok with her. Girl Person stood there with a dog bag in her hand and as the camper monster shut the door, Girl Person picked up his business and thought about making a special delivery to camper monster.  But she held her breath again and walked back to camp…this time crying.  Boy Person of course had no clue what had happened, and as she told him, they decided to both get in the car and go to the beach.  The beach can cure just about anything for us.

Well, we all had a good night of lauging about how much camping is hard.  And I am going to admit, we have met some pretty mean people on this trip.  And it shocks us that not everyone likes dogs….and it hurts too.  And although Girl Person didn’t make that special delivery, she had decided to walk us by camper monster’s rv every. Single. Walk.  And you guessed it.  Sheriff Brickle decided to do his business there once again.  As Girl Person bent down to pick up the business, she missed her target, and you guessed it. Instead of having a bag full of business, she had a hand full of business.  She stood there for a moment morified at the steaming business in her hand.  But then, she told us that she deserved it.  Here she was, trying to get someone mad when in fact, she was just adding to the madness.  And she also told us that it was time.  Time for a yard.  Time to get away.  Time to go somewhere we could stay for awhile.  And I have to agree.  But where that will be still remains to be seen.  Maybe this week will bring us closer.  If not, we can’t guarantee what else will happen.

Be glad there’s one place in the world
Where everybody knows your name,
And they’re always glad you came;
You want to go where people know,
People are all the same;
You want to go where everybody knows your name.

    Unfortunately, as in so many other situations, it’s the PEOPLE who ruin camping for others. Not the camping itself. People leave jobs because of the jerks they work with, not the jobs themselves. People move because of bad neighbors, not the neighborhood. Why do jerky jerks have to ruin things for those of us who are kind, polite, caring, responsible? I don’t know. I’m so sorry you have to stop camping mainly because of the other campers–think how glorious it would be if you all had every campsite to yourselves!

    Oh, Digby, yes, it’s time to get over camping, no doubt. I’m truly saddened by how dreadful some of the people you have encountered have been. I’m so sorry for that, one of the many reasons I choose animals over people. Please tell Girl Person she showed great restraint and kindness even thinking about what she was doing, because I’m not sure I would have done the same. I’ve been over camping in a two week period, I can’t imagine doing it for over a year! But you were spreading love and the word to millions of people, so my gratitude knows no bounds. I hope you all get some rest, this “Stop Hounding Me” is one of may favorites, such a special rescue, that bird head is KILLING me, so funny, and the fact that it’s your last one is so special. Much love, as always, keep on keeping on until you figure out your next move, we are all here having your backs in any way we can!!!! xoxoxoxo <3 <3 <3 <3

    I agree with all of the comments about being sorry about the way people act. I don’t understand not liking dogs. Personally, I don’t trust people who don’t have dogs or don’t drink coffee. Maybe the people who hate dogs need coffee. Yes, it is time to get rid of the house on wheels. The boys and person’s need to have a home that stays in one spot. On the lighter side, loved you latest video. The Birds has always been a favorite and your opening on the video was hilarious! You know, you might want to consider the Great Lakes area. They’re as big as an ocean and the water isn’t salty. Property would be cheaper but then you would have to contend with snow and cold during the winter. I know all of us fans are waiting with bated breath to know what you have decided to do. I’m sort of thinking that the best is yet to come.

    So sorry … why don’t you head toward Pismo Beach? You can park ON the beach, close to more central CA wine country, Santa Barbara, etc.. or head to Carmel … the friendliest dog city in CA… miles of off-leash beach. I feed badly that beautiful N CA is being rude … I’m hoping the mean ones are from out-of-state because CA doesn’t need a worse reputation than they a
    have currently. 😢

    I’m so sorry to hear that you have people that are mean to you all just remember that we all love you and know what your all doing hope your week gets better

    You do meet some mean animal haters but that is their loss our gain. To be a day without a dog would be a day without air!
