The Real Life

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle.  And I have to admit it.  Things have been a little slow around this Big Blue Treat Wagon RV lately.  The persons have been overwhelmed with decisions about where we can live.  They have been overwhelmed with finding camp spots.  And they have been overwhelmed with life in general.  Then, the tragedy in that Texas place happened.  And it is sad.  Real sad.  And it hurts our hearts, as I am sure it does yours.  As we have been trying to find out how we can help, we feel like throwing our hands and paws up in the air.  It is so hard to watch and listen to.  And we literally cannot imagine how it must feel if YOU are in that Texas place, and if you have lost your home, or family. And we are thinking of you, Texas place.

Someday I’ll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That’s where you’ll find me

At times like this, it is the easy thing to do when you are going thru bad things, or know of people going thru bad things, to give in to despair.  But is this all there is?  Is this all that there is to life?  Is this the real life?  Or is the real life better than this?

What I try to do at times like this is remember that there are more good days than bad.  As Granny Person always used to say, “This too will pass”.  And she is right.  Because what life is about is not the bad.  Life is not the sad.  Life is not bad news, tragedy and despair.  Life is sunshiney, good food, good friends and love.  And if you are in Sonoma County like we are…good wine.

Well I see trees of green and red roses too,
I’ll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

I don’t know about you, but the last few days when I have found happiness in my day, I have felt a little bit guilty.  Not as guilty as when Deputy Digby eats up that old crab leg in the sand and tries to gulp it down…but guilty.  I have felt guilty about enjoying the ocean and the breeze here in this California place.  But then Girl Person told me that the only guilt that would be correct would be if I was NOT enjoying it.  Because it wasn’t the sunshiney’s fault, or the ocean’s fault that there was goodness still in this world despite all of the bad going on.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Once in a lullaby

That Texas place may have a long way to go to their sunshiney days. And it is our hopes that the people who can help will help for all of that time.  It is also our hopes that you will not forget about your local shelters or rescues in this time, like the #48 rescue pick on our Adventure Of A Lifetime, Soft Paws Rescue here in Santa Rosa, California who is desperate need of help too.  Just because there are needs in Texas does not mean that their needs or other shelters’ needs go away.  Let’s spread our love out and help when and where we can, as we know our fans always do.  And wherever you choose to help, please make sure your hard earned time and money go to reputable places.  As Sheriff, I know I have a lot of legwork to do to arrest all the bad ones.  So make sure they are good ones.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Singing, “How do you do?”
They’re really singing, “I, I love you.”

If you have been feeling guilty, I am arresting it right now.  Despite all the bad in our world, the real life, the one worth living is made up of good things and good days.  Embrace your real life today and remember that the rainbow means a better tomorrow.  Things will get better, just like me, with age.

Someday I’ll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That’s where you’ll find me
