I Can’t Go For That

This is Deputy Digby Pancake.  What a difference a day makes, especially when the warm, salty, Oregon air is blowing.  It makes you feel, well, renewed.  It makes you feel, well…salty.

Oregon has so many different things to see.  Every path you take is different from the one before it. You have rivers to see, the ocean to look at, and forests to walk in. It is almost as different as me and Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle. And as usual, Girl Person seems to think we need to learn a lesson from it.  And I suppose in this case, I agree.

The more time that the persons have spent with me and Sheriff Brickle on this trip, the more the persons realize how different we truly are.

Sheriff Brickle likes the ocean, and in fact, he could simply sit in the sand for hours gazing at the waves.

I’ll do anything
That you want me to do
I’ll do almost anything
That you want me to
But I can’t go for that, no (no) no can do

He could actually look at the ocean longer than he looks at himself in the mirror.  And that is a very long time.

Me?  The ocean, well, it is too overwhelming for me.  And I don’t want to just stand there, I want to go hiking.  Swimming? NO thanks.

But I can’t go for that, no (no) no can do

The waves are too loud, and I want to get to the trees as fast as I can. I see that the ocean is pretty, and I can appreciate it for a minute.  But.  The forest is my happy place.

I like all of the smells and the adventure that the forest has.

Sheriff Brickle likes the forest for a little while too, but he usually is ready to get back to the ocean.

After a year of being so close together, the persons have come to a few conclusions.  I know that it takes persons more time to “get things” about us dogs.  But if you give yourself a little time, you may get it eventually “get it” too.  Or you may be arrested.  Your choice.

I can go for being twice as nice
I can go for just repeating
The same old lines

You see, some persons don’t realize that we are individuals.  If you just think of us as a dog, what are you missing?  We don’t see every person as just a person.  We can see how different you are.  Believe me.

If persons saw animals as individuals, how different would things be?  Would they be so quick to not take us when they moved?  Would they be so quick to give up on us when we didn’t act like they wanted us to?  Why can’t most persons see that we have likes, dislikes, loves and needs?  We want to be a part of your life, and we want to be happy too. Just like you.

Some persons may not want to see our personalities because it will mean more accountability and work from them.  Girl Person says that time spent with us has made her realize she has to try harder to make sure that our individuality is recognized. I am just repeating what she said, I have no clue what that means.  But she told me that even though we are staying on the beach till Friday, she is making sure she takes me hiking in the woods every day too.  A little bit of balance never hurt anyone unless you limit pancake consumption.

Ooh, forget about it
Now say no go

So take a moment today in-between coming up with new pancake recipes to look at your dog.  No, really look at your dog.  Do you know what makes your dog happy or sad?  Do you do your best to take your responsibility as our person seriously?  You will find that making sure we are happy makes you happy.  And happiness is what we all need.  Happiness is what we all want.  And I can sooooo go for that. If anyone knows happy, it is me.  The Sheriff? Not so much.

Exactly what you said, Deputy, regarding some people not wanting to know or see the difference in ALL animals personalities, because of the “more accountability and work from them” aspect. And every blog and video and post you all make, always amazes me at how different to the Sheriff you are, but both so equally precious and appealing, it’s really special. 2 Traveling Dogs, is my therapy, peace and I miss reading so much when I’m stupid busy. And of course, all of the wisdom, travel, TRUTH, and perspective. I love you all. Peace and Love to You, Family!!! xoxoxoxox <3 <3 <3 <3

Good word Digby. I only have one dog due to monetary reasons. She is 14 and a half and I love her. Glad you are having a great day.

Good blog Digby. I do know my dogs are very different but you made me think harder about it. That maybe I do not always treat them as completely separate individuals all the time. I think maybe sometimes I get too busy that I do forget that fact. I will do better that’s a promise. Thanks for reminding me!
