This is Deputy Digby Pancake. We have had a great week and weekend in that Montana place so far.
Yes, it rained quite a bit, and we were sure cold, but as we are from that Florida place, being cold in June is quite a rare occurrence. It was also a rare occurrence to see a rainbow on those Montana mountains.
And we needed the reminder that the world was bigger than our problems. Because our so called problems this weekend helped us to make one decision. One in the first of many in the months to come as we near the end of this Adventure Of A Lifetime.

As we got to our campsite last week, we found out that someone had put golf cart batteries in the Big Blue Treat Wagon RV. It just wasn’t running right. Kinda like when my stomach growls. We also found out that these batteries were probably not something you should put in a RV for fear that they may explode like Sheriff Brickle’s attitude. And you may get stranded.

And I’ll never be the same
Now, in the big scheme of things, I realize that I don’t really care about this. In fact, no one should care actually because other people have way bigger problems than this. But after being on the road for over a year, little things seem like big things because we are a little tired and on edge and we worry. And well, sometimes they say something is the straw that broke the camel’s back. This was our straw, yet we had no camel thank goodness. Just a moose.
And he wouldn’t grow. It is my professional opinion that we make him pull this Big Blue Treat Wagon RV. The box says he is supposed to grow to 600% of size. Still. Waiting. Stay tuned.
As Boy Person and Girl Person tried to solve the golf cart battery problem, they were working as well on the animal rescue work they do on the weekends. Writing articles and making a video like the one they were doing for Idaho.
And it seemed like the harder they worked, the more tired they got.

Oh that sleepwalk should be over by now I know
Girl Person looked in the mirror and said she looked a mess. Boy Person was trying to read thru books to figure out how to fix all the batteries that should have been in a golf cart. Then, it started pouring again and well. The persons had a bit of a meltdown that rivaled butter melting on a Montana Huckleberry Roll. Yes, Girl Person was working on the recipe too. As they were having their meltdown, I knew it was coming. Girl Person’s question of what in the world we were going to do and where in the world we were going to go when we are done with our last three states of Washington, Oregon and California. How much longer could we work this hard? She was about done.
But instead of asking a question, Girl Person laid down the law like Sheriff Brickle. In one clear breath, she told Boy Person that this was the last straw. They were going to rest.

And how I can’t explain
After we were done with this trip and make our last stop in Sonoma County, California which we have been missing for over five years, we are going to stop for a month or two. And breathe. We will clean the RV. We will either set fire to or clean the Jeep. And then, after we ourselves are clean too and the persons have found a few bottles of wine, we will decide what to do. We will decide where to live. And in the meantime, maybe take a trip back to that Florida place to say hello while deciding and resting. We just can’t keep going like this. And we thank Montana and the batteries for helping us make our first decision.
Rest? This sounds like a dream come true! And it has been a long time coming. Just like a rescue animal sometimes waits for that perfect home, we know our perfect home is out there too. Or maybe even our next perfect adventure. Wherever our paths lead us these last few states, we are going to enjoy it. Because we have made our first decision now and the pressure is off a little bit. We can do this! And we have to say. Sonoma has been on our minds for years. To know we can go back there after we left in 2012 seemed like it would never happen. We sure wish Granny Person was here to tell her about it. But for now, we are going to celebrate. We can do this. Maybe we don’t have a clue what will be in store for us. But after some rest, maybe we will know. Now, if we can only find somewhere to park in Sonoma, California! That is sure probably a dream! Did I mention that I will work for pancakes?
As you know, we are still reporting from this Montana place. Today, we are headed to our Montana rescue visit with Animeals in Missoula. They operate an animal food bank and adoption center! How cool! Food? Who said food? We had to drive a long way back from Glacier National Park to visit with them, and we still have another hour to drive today. But we know they will be more than worth our effort, and we can’t wait to meet them! Stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates today. After our rescue visit, we are watching the weather. We will either start our trek out of Montana towards the Washington place on Tuesday or Wednesday. I wish it would rain pancakes, and that way, I would have no problem watching the weather. I would just eat it.

Yes Rose is correct the gulf cart batteries are just what you need as house batteries.
If in the future if you want to replace them go for AGM type batteries as the never need for you to add water to them. Safe travels…
Now it’s very important that you use the right battery for the type of application. The battery used to start and run the engine is referred to as a chassis battery or a starting battery. Vehicle starters require large starting currents for short periods. Starting batteries have a large number of thin plates to maximize the plate area exposed to the electrolyte. This is what provides the large amount of current in short bursts. Starting batteries are rated in Cold Cranking Amps (CCA). CCA is the number of amps the battery can deliver at 0 degrees F for 30 seconds and not drop below 7.2 volts. Starting batteries should not be used for deep cycle applications.
The battery or batteries used to supply 12-volts to the RV itself are commonly referred to as house batteries. House batteries need to be deep cycle batteries that are designed to provide a steady amount of current over a long period. Starting batteries and marine batteries should not be used in this application. True deep cycle batteries have much thicker plates and are designed to be deeply discharged and recharged repeatedly. These batteries are rated in Amp Hours (AH) and more recently Reserve Capacity (RC).
In short, golf cart batteries are exactly what should be used to supply th 12 volts for all the stuff. The difference is amp hours verses cold cranking amps.
I lived in California until I could no longer stand the expense. I made the most money in my career there but actually LOST money over all because of the high taxes and high cost of living. Tell your persons that they should consider lower cost-of-living states so that more of their income can go toward a long-term pancake budget.
That sounds like a very reasonable and much needed plan You cannot help others without helping yourselves first ,and down time is required for this
I would like to remind however that in the state of Washington we are quite proud of our wine varieties for you to enjoy before resting ,specifically in my town of Walla Walla where there are over 100 wineries
If you are in our neighborhood, I personally invite you to park The Big Blue treat wagon in our driveway and could take you wine tasting. Hang in there and make sure to stop and smell all roses !

Just making a big decision like that can bring such relief and calm to you. You all have had quite an adventure this past year with good memories and some bad, but you are together and something great will come to you.

Your persons may need to rent a plug in place for the RV and live in it for a year or three while working and saving to buy that home in Sonoma ~ the one thing I know you have great persons and they will make sure all is well with their boys. Places change over time ~ you may find Sonoma isn’t your dream place these days. Tracy Lawrence sang a song Everything Changes on that we can rely 🙂
