Around The Corner

This is Deputy Digby Pancake.  Oh, Missouri, you are making us feel better after a long week.  You are making us stop and appreciate nature, your rivers, your scenic scenes.  I crack myself up. And you are inspiring me to learn again.  So much so, I found a song about you, Missouri.  Your official state song.  Allow me to bark along with pancake breath. You can sing if you want.

Now, I am going to admit I literally have no clue what in the world this song has to do with Missouri.  All I know is that I heard something about a banjo. And strumming.  And nothing about pancakes.  So I should eat a pancake now to get me back on track with what I was going to say.

When we were hiking yesterday, we were tired.  But it was needed for us to get our minds back on track.  Sometimes, when you are going thru a rough time, or a ruff time, again, I crack myself up, it is hard to see past what is right in front of you. But if you keep walkin, eventually, you will get to a corner.  And you will turn with it, and there will be something there to await you.  Something good, if only you keep walking.

So that is what we did.  After a week of headaches and lack of pancakes and peanut butter cookies, we kept walking and in place of all that bad stuff, we found some good in our day.  The Missouri River on a Lewis and Clark trail.  Fall leaves and colors, nice people who wanted to pet us and call us handsome. And Missouri won over our hearts.  Right around that corner.

So if you are going through something not so good, remember that corner.  Girl Person says that she is trying to keep on walking to get back to see her family and her friends who she misses very much, some sleep and some Florida sunshiney.  I am walking to find more pancakes, I mean, what did you think I was going to say?  Brickle is walking to find more handsome lighting and more backdrops for his handsome.

We didn’t think when we came to Missouri that we would be so surprised.  Surprised at its calming spirit, its friendly and welcoming people, and its waters, hikes and yes, wine.  Girl Person told me to say that.  But wherever YOU are walking today, just keep going.  I can guarantee that you will find your corner too.

I just lost my precious Dane Vannah of only 3 this past week. She had swallowed a toy and it got stuck in her intestines. My vet did an exploratory surgery and said it was the worse she’s ever seen. She got the pieces of toy out but it was touch and go. Three days after surgery she succumbed due to everything just shutting down and passed away in my arms at my home. I have been totally lost without her. She has been my rock for the past 2 1/2 years getting me through some really difficult times in my life. She was ever so sweet and loving and at my side every moment she could. I’m on disability with a lot of serious bone and joint issues so I’m home a lot and she was always at my side giving me all the love she could. She never chewed on stuff she wasn’t suppose to even as a puppy but had a thing for my friends Terriers little toys and would always try to swallow them. Usually she would vomit them up but this one I was not aware of. We are usually so careful to keep these little toys confined to the Terriers kennel but accidents happen. Anyways reading your blog today made me think how this week I’ve been walking in a straight line wondering when the curve is coming up. How am I going to go on without her being at my side? Like what was the reason behind losing her so young. Will I ever know? I’m hoping a curve comes up soon so I know what I’m suppose to do now and try to make some sense of this.

Thank you. Today I have to say goodbye to my best friend for the last 13 years. Scout. I will keep walking after today and that corner will come. God bless you all. I live in Arkansas and I hope you will make it here someday. But go home. Because there is no place like home. Scout taught me that.
